This weekend I was blessed to be part of a wedding. This one held special meaning because I introduced them. I say that not with arrogance, but with confidence knowing only God has the real divine will for their lives with Him as their foundation. It was so special to be a part of a wedding where you know both the bride and groom just as well.
Paul was my youth leader in high school and he was such a comfortable friend. You know the ones that you don't see for a long time and yet it never changes the friendship you share. I have watched him date girls throughout the years and he never seemed settled being single. So to see him watch his bride walk down the aisle was such a gift. I always love to watch the groom because in that is how God views His bride, the church. There is an amazing amount of joy that is overflowing from the relationship that is about to form a covenant. That is definitely how Paul looked on Saturday.
Chrissy was a friend that when our children were little we went to events they went to (Gymboree, soccer, baseball) and sat on the sidelines talking. Our friendship developed over the years as a client as well as friend. It was wonderful to see her grow as a Christian in these last few years. With that came dating stories. I know she had lots of choices but very few that really wowed her. I do not feel these guys even held a candle to the man of God Paul is.
That is where it began, an opportunity for these two to meet. I think Paul was enamored with Chrissy from the beginning but she took a little longer. I remember once she said to me "Is this guy for real or is there another side that hasn't come out yet?" I assured her he is that kind hearted servant she saw him to be and that he really is genuine. The dating continued via skype and I was wondering what would happen when he came home from his mission trip. Would he be able to handle three kids when he has been single so long? Would he understand the hustle of a single mom working full-time and going to school full-time? Yet he did. He positioned himself in her life to ease some of her daily burdens of time management and in the process gained an understanding of life in a family. I think he loved it.
Long story short, it was a privilege to stand next to these two before God as they solidified their covenant promise to each other. It was a great wedding and Chrissy looked absolutely stunning in her dress!
