After taking the class "Loving and Letting Go", I thought I might put into practice some of the material I read. Nolan asked to go on a trip with his friends (co-ed also) with no parental chaperone's.
Dilemma number one: A senior on a trip in cars with many young teenage drivers
Dilemma number two: A senior on a trip with a group of girls
Dilemma number three: A senior in another state without parental direction or $$
Dilemma number four: A senior boy comes before junior girl, setting standard for future trips
Dilemma number five: A senior boy in California, where huge fire is threatening the area, causing evacuations
After going back and forth between allowing him to go or not, I decided to trust God and allow Him to protect him. It was a rewarding decision as around midnight on the first night, I found a hidden, handwritten note from said senior. In it he stated very graciously, thank you for trusting him and promises of responsible behavior along with the cell phone number of every teen on the trip. I was delighted in his thoughtfulness and his willingness to choose to be intentional. It was a sign of his maturity and it made me want to trust him.
I know this is only a brief glimpse of the prayer life that awaits me as I let go of this firstborn son of mine.
