THE FISHING BADGE

Yesterday we went to the lake to fish and swim so Levi and his scout friends could earn their fishing badges. They had to learn about five different fish, bait a hook, take off the fish and of course, proper fishing manners when out with other fishermen.

Levi learned that fishing here requires patience and a good chair. He was very sad he only caught one fish, but I think it was a good lesson in learning to be happy for others when your success is not as you would like it to be. He did not want to quit when we were finished and could have stayed out there all night. I see a trip back to the lake in our near future.

They caught Blue Gill, Trout and Catfish but the prize seemed to be the Catfish, as they were the bigger catch. We are supposed to have a fish fry and try them out. I am glad we ate hot dogs that night because we ended up eating around eight and we were all starving by then.

They loved jumping off the boat and swimming to shore. That was his first time in a boat and he could not believe you are allowed to just jump off:)A big "thanks" goes out to my friend Kelly, who let us use her dad, whose knowledge of fishing was great, his house boat and his speed boat. The boys loved it and can not wait to go back.
