As I am a little slow in posting lately, I finally can show my new venture. I do not know what is getting into me lately, I am experiencing more of a rural lifestyle, so my garden and chickens have filled my time. One of my friends said, "If you get a goat, I am planning an intervention for sure!" For now, it is all a new learning lifestyle for me to escape to.
We are the proud owners of these seven chickens, there were eight but (Eggbert Jones RIP) one did not make it. It has been a fun experience for all of us. We got them when they were a day old and put them in a brooder for the first few weeks. Scott built this amazing chicken coop with nesting boxes and scratching posts and Cassidy painted cute flowers all over it. We can get the eggs from the outside with doors that swing open and can clean the coop with windows that open and vent for fresh air. I have never been around chickens before, so I am amzed at how they put themselves to sleep the moment it turns dark.
We are raising them for the eggs and hope they are all female (98% chance) but if by chance one might be a rooster, we are not sure what we will do yet. For now they come running when we come in the coop, hoping for worms and crickets, and most of them liked to be held. I am having a blast and can't believe how much fun they are to watch.
