Great Book!

I am always a little leery about recommending books. It is such a defining moment when you put yourself out there to exclaim what you personally found intense. I love to read a lot of different material, non-fiction as well as fiction. I even love self help and how-to books.

I read this little book this weekend and it spoke volumes to me. I came away repentant to God for my lack of integrity in the small issues of life and apologizing to my children for the little gray areas that I have not been a good example. I even had to address when I decided to cut through a parking lot in order to avoid construction to my seven year old. Imagine justifying to a seven year old when I should just do what is right to begin with!!

This book is a play off of the tortoise and the hare. It has a character which is a rabbit, who becomes the main character's (Edgar) conscience. I instead like to think of the Holy Spirit, which dwells in those that seek him and the wisdom, discernment and goodness that goes along with making intentional, right choices. It follows Edgar from childhood to adulthood and the path he and his three friends make as they try to succeed in life. The timing is profound as we face this financial crisis as a nation. We are struggling based upon others poor, honest decisions.

I don't want to spoil it, but it is a must read. I am going to challenge my two high schoolers to read it and discuss its value. The representation of sin-nature verses God's character is very clear and sends a wonderful message.

I was mindful of Micah 6:8 "He has showed you, O Man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."

Let me know if any of you have read this book...
