Well, finally the day came. It was a dreaded day a few months ago when we received the upcoming schedule for boy scouts. There was 'Bike Safety Day' a date in January that Levi was dreading.
Being a perfectionist, he does not like to fail and that includes falling on his bicycle. He had not mastered the art of bike riding without falling, especially in front of other kids. We worked on it for months, all with a lot of drama and tears. I knew he could do it, but he did not feel like he could. We even had a quad for him for Christmas last year if he learned how to ride his bike, he could ride quads with Dad. That was a year ago.It sat there with a big bow and no one to ride it. The bike was too overwhelming to him.
That was until this date in January. He became determined to ride his bike for this boy scout adventure. He came home every day after school to practice in the driveway. Finally, he found success! He earned his bike loop and was able to ride his bike in the neighborhood with all the other boys. More than that, he worked hard at something that was difficult for him to accomplish. He learned to conquer a fear with a lot of hard work and diligence! He now says, "I don't know why I thought riding a bike was so hard!"
I love taking him on bike rides in the neighborhood and the fact he is so proud of himself!!
