At least once a week, everything on our patio gets pulled into the yard to make blinds, one on each side of the yard. The goggles go on and the defense is up. They will play with the air soft guns for hours. They hide anywhere and everywhere to get away from each other.
Let me say, when Nolan was little I forbid all guns in our house! We would not 'play' shooting each other. I thought if I banned it, they would never know what they were missing. That was until Nolan was eating his toast and ate it into a gun in which he was pointing at his sister saying she was dead. "What! How could this be?" I exclaimed. I could not believe the very thing I was trying to keep out of the play time, was now being introduced of his own imagination. Although, I am sure he saw it somewhere, he knew what a gun was.
I re-evaluated our toy gun role play. I thought maybe I could have them point the guns at a target instead of each other that would solve the danger factor, not to mention the hurt it could cause. This has all taken a complete backseat thanks to my outdoors husband. He fought to teach gun safety and have really set boundaries to use them. So that is what we have done. We each have our own air soft gun and will have family wars occasionally. We take them camping and it is a blast with all the trees. They have been fun and one of the major rules is glasses must be worn!
The bad part about all these wars, are the thousands of pellets that are around our entire living perimeter. On any given day, you will step on one at least. I still think a small price to pay for the innocent fun that allows these boys to be boys. Even some of the adult neighbors will engage in said wars:) If ever in our neighborhood, please watch for flying objects because you never know who might be lurking behind some bush!
