Addendum to BOYS WILL BE BOYS

Thirty minutes after I posted this, I received a call from my neighbor who had the Mesa Police Dept. at her house. Turns out a few girls were riding their bikes in the front of our house and asked to play with the air soft guns with the boys (Levi and a neighbor boy). The boys said sure and went to town. As I said before, our rule is NO EYE WEAR< NO PLAY! They proceeded to play with the girls anyway.

I am sure you can see where this is going.... One girl got hit in the leg and went home crying and told her grandma that these mean ol' boys shot at them. She in turn, called the police which showed up to give a big talk to these boys. He really did his duty and scared the bajeebies right out of them. I do not think the officer was taking it very lightly and imposed VERY strongly to the boys of the seriousness of making sure everyone was ready and engaged for battle.

Levi was so embarrassed! He would have never thought he would be in trouble with the police and could not understand because the girls asked to participate. It was a great lesson and the air soft guns have been put in time out for reflection purposes. I also learned that it is important to know the families before allowing this kind of interaction. I still think it can be a fun activity with all parties agreeing to the terms. I did not know these girls and was able to teach Levi about diversity and how important good communication is, even amongst friends.

For the record...The "neighborhood" boy that Levi was playing with was NOT Zane! :)
